So you’d like to know more about me? Alright then, you asked for it! I was born in 1981 in Magdeburg, East Germany where I grew up until I was 17. I then moved near Frankfurt am Main and started working at Maxon Computer, the makers of Cinema 4D – the 3d app I use. I had already started messing with computer graphics when I was around 14 or 15 though, back when Amiga computers were still the best things sinced sliced bread. I’m fully self taught.

At Maxon I moved from product support on to their inhouse graphics department and produced all kinds of images and animations to promote Cinema 4D or to include as examples with the software. In my spare time I also worked on various personal projects. I developed special interest in the lighting and rendering aspect of 3d graphics during this time and was particularly excited when global illumination was added to Cinema 4D.

In 2002 I moved to England and continued roughly the same work at Maxon’s UK office. I also became more involved in writing part of the manuals and tutorials for Cinema 4D which I had already done to some degree at Maxon in Germany.

I left Maxon (but remained a beta tester) in 2003 to pursue a number of freelance projects at various companies doing mainly product visualisation. I also became interested in matte painting and decided it would be a good idea to look for a job at one of the production houses in London – as a matte painter and/or 3D environment artist. I sent my demoreel to a whole bunch of companies and got a job to work on the movie Alien vs Predator at the Moving Picture Company. I enjoyed the work very much and learned a lot.

Since 2004 I’ve worked on a number of different projects in different areas – mainly product visualisation, interiors and matte painting. Companies I’ve worked for include Design Bridge and Landor in London amongst others. I’ve also been producing training videos for Cinema 4D together with Matthew O’Neill as 3D Fluff.

I now live near Eindhoven in the Netherlands where I’m still working from home as a freelancer for companies all over the world.  Recently I’ve been focussing more on photography than CG which some may find surprising since it usually goes the other way round – from photographer to cg artist. It’s not very surprising in my case though since my main interest in CG has always been lighting/rendering/colours/composition and post editing in Photoshop. It’s great to be experienced in both fields and it gives me advantages over other photographers or cg artists. The only disadvantage is the gear acquisition syndrome…
